Access, a program of 20 development projects, was inaugurated by the British Library in July 1993 to investigate hardware and software platforms for the digitization and subsequent networking of a range of library materials. In addition to enhancing library services and facilitating access, the program will establish standards for storage, indexing, retrieval and transmission of data, and will examine copyright issues involved with digitization of material and its provision over networks.
