Bradypus torquatus Illiger, 1811 is a three-toed sloth commonly called the maned three-toed sloth. It is endemic to the Atlantic coastal forests of southeastern Brazil. Occasionally placed in its own genus (Scaeopus), the black mane of this three-toed sloth is distinctive. Like other sloths, B. torquatus is a high-canopy folivore with a commensal relationship with algae and invertebrates that live in its abundant pelage. B. torquatus is an endangered species that does not adapt to captive zoo settings. DOI: 10.1644/829.1
