Abstract

An efficient identity management has been an aspiring and dream for many nations and organizations. The objectives for uniquely identifying individuals have been different for different entities. For some, the need for better security had been the driving factor, while for others identity management would mean better transparency and improved efficiency. The challenges in implementing an efficient identity management mechanism in a country like India are immense. In this paper we have tried to identify the challenges and factors effecting identity management in rural India at a micro level by studying the membership management of Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA) an organization working in rural districts of India. © Institute for Computer Sciences, Social-Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2010.
