Presently, the market offers a variety of products aimed at improving the composition of nutrient solutions for the different hypothetical needs of the patients and assuring their physical/chemical stability. The following chapter revises the sources of macronutrients and micronutrients used by the pharmaceutical industry for the elaboration of parenteral nutrition, explaining and comparing these products in detail.The standardized commercial parenteral nutrition, known as premixed parenteral nutrition, is also described. These are mixes of amino acids, with or without electrolytes, and glucose, sometimes containing lipids.
