Abstract

Additives are responsible for the acceptance of plastics worldwide. The amount of plasticizer in polyvinyl chloride determines whether or not it is rigid (as is pipe) or flexible (as is wallpaper). The analytical chemist is frequently called upon to identify these additives and their concentrations.
