Abstract

Some stem cell researchers think conventional culture falls flatIn a field where distinguishing populations of cells can make a career, stem-cell biologists struggle todetermine how various cell types respond to chemical cues. Throw in a consideration of physicaleffects, and the complexity can be almost too much to bear. But for spurring growth anddifferentiation, researchers are increasingly finding that physical factors can make all the difference
