This research seeks to explore the phenomena on the crafting of executive strategy, and in particular how they affect the performance of organisations and related issues of employee retention and motivation. The study was conducted within the South African manufacturing industry. A quantitative exploratory approach was taken from a positivist perspective. Findings indicated that Labour perceives poor levels of knowledge management occurring within their direct line of leadership, and expressed the view that executive strategy is not communicated through to Labour's bottom-line. Conversely, Labour perceives that their input to enhance knowledge management within their organisations is not put into action by executives. It was recommended that future research should expand the sample size and sites to gather more in-depth understanding of the issues stemming from these research findings.
