Abstract

Mosque is a central place for Muslims to worship. The mosque at school is one type of mosque which is used by students and teachers, but also congregational prayer. Due to the large number of students and teachers entering the mosque, this can cause uncomfortable and un-solemn conditions. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the comfort quality of the school mosque for the worshipers, one of which is the thermal aspect. This research aims to evaluate the thermal comfort quality of high school mosques and give design recommendations. The case study of this research in SMA Pasundan 1 Bandung. The method used in this study is quantitative descriptive approach. CBE Thermal Comfort tools were used to analyze the PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) from the data that was taken in the case study and confirm through user interviews and distribution of perception questionnaires. Mahoney table also used to give design recommendations for case study. The result shows that this mosque gets a slightly warm sensation on all measurement places without any person inside. However, respondents stated that it would feel hotter if fulfilled by people, especially in the congregational prayer times. Several recommendations obtained from mahoney table such as, changing building to north-south orientation, adding indoor open space with wind penetration or circulation, sizing the opening around 25%-40% of the building area with a human-sized opening, wall covering materials and roof coverings use materials with a short propagation time.
