Yesterday, changes were small and smooth, so the engineers could foresee the operating conditions. Thus, users are expected to follow their instructions to operate. But today changes were so frequent, extensive and sharp, so the engineers cannot predict the future and only users know what is happen-ing. Thus, adequate operating conditions cannot be determined without their adequate situational awareness and cognition and their decision making becomes increasingly important. Cognition-motivation-decision making-action-emotion constitute an emotional cycle and the systems which support this cycle adequately are needed for today and tomorrow. In other words, systems must learn how to interact with users and with situations. Taking motion control as an example, how systems can learn by themselves to become emotionally responsive to the user is described.
