Abstract

This essay proposes some analytical possibilities concerning the relationship between madness and gender in the history of mental asylums in the mid-20th century in Colombia. The research is based upon institutional documents and medical reports of the Asilo de Locas de Bogotá. It outlines the relation between social conceptions of female madness and the application of specific diagnosis and treatments in 1930s and 1940s. (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
