Abstract

Addressing the relationship between limited resources and a growing population is a hot issue during the process of urbanization. Effective utilization of rainwater plays a positive role in a low-carbon strategy. The purpose of this study is to present an application of mathematical analytical tools for urban planners in predicting rainwater runoff before constructing. Based on available data and a practical investigation in the study area (Harbin Institute of Technology), this study classifies the area into four parts according to the different runoff coefficients and then evaluates the volume of runoff based on the data of average volume of rainfall and evaporation capacity using mathematical analytical tools. The results show the minimum volume of water reservoirs in a single area. This research will contribute to an understanding of the role played by water resources in low-carbonprecinct buildings in the scientific planning of runoff treatment systems.
