Abstract

In this paper, it is established that the Siete Partidas is a specific legal discourse that was composed by different discursive genres in order to build a unique narrative system. The analysis starts from a critique of the pan-European views on Law. In that sense, it is settled that the creation of the Partidas is due to the medieval material and cultural conditions of textual composition. Based on this, the idea of compilation is presented as active practice concerning legal creation. Finally, an analysis of some titles of the Segunda Partida is provided in order to demonstrate the central idea already stated.
