Abstract

The concept of technical systems is the foundation of many existing design theories and methodologies, such as systematic design methodology and TRIZ. A formal representation of technical systems is proposed to support the more logical application of the existing methodologies to various practical problems. This formal representation is based on axiomatic theory of design modelling. It shows that all the components of a technical system can be effectively represented in a formal system. © Springer-Verlag London Limited 2009.
