Abstract

The incidence of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in the United States is about 2.5 per 100,000, with a strong association with increasing age.1 Males are predominantly affected. There is a predilection for Caucasians in North America and Australasia.2 The incidence of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is increased in Hispanics and may be associated with a breakpoint in the PML-RARa gene pathognmonic of that disease. © 2006 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.
