Abstract

This chapter draws a map of the values of Europeans. In doing so, I draw particularly upon existing literature and Europe-wide surveys such as the Eurobarometer and the European Values Survey. It is shown how the European Union has evolved from a union of a geographical entity or a single market to become more and more a human community and a union of people with common values derived from cultural diversity, shared history and collective destinies. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
