Abstract

Considers several traditions in psychopathology, including the syndromal, the biological, and the functional diagnostic, and focuses in detail on the functional diagnostic approach as a means of illustrating a Relational Frame Theory (RFT) approach to psychopathology. The authors consider how RFT can add to psychotherapy, especially how it interconnects with the new wave of behavioral therapies (i.e., Clinical Behavior Analysis) including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Functional Analytic Psychotherapy, Dialectic Behavior Therapy, and Integrative Couples Therapy.
