Abstract

The purpose of cutting fluid in a machining operation is to cool the workpiece, reduce friction, and wash away the chips. The cutting fluid contributes significantly toward machining cost and also possesses environmental threats. In the past, there have been some attempts to minimize the amount of cutting fluid in machining. This chapter reviews some prominent ways to minimize the application of cutting fluid and their impact on the machining performance.
