Abstract

An actuator is an electromechanical device which converts mechanical or electrical energy into mechanical work. There are several types of actuators depending of input energy source: hydraulic, pneumatic, AC, DC and stepper actuators. In this chapter are classified the various actuators available, based on the type of energy source used. A working principle, general design and practical design and usage for each type of these actuator are introduced.
