This work explores the relationship between leadership styles and the emergence of shared leadership in teams of university students. The data were collected from 181 engineering students grouped into 32 work teams at a Chilean university and then processed with the help of the Mplus software. Structural equation and bootstrap models were used to achieve higher reliability of the estimators obtained. The results indicate that teams high in transformational leadership are positively related to the emergence of shared leadership, and teams high in passive-avoidant leadership are negatively related to the emergence of shared leadership. Using models of structural equations and bootstrap for greater reliability of the obtained estimators, findings indicate that teams high in transformational are positively related to the emergence of shared leadership and teams high in passive-avoidant leadership are negatively related to the emergence of shared leadership.
