Abstract

The concept of body schema is analysed, comparing the biological and artificial domains and emphasizing its logical necessity for the efficient coordination of redundant degrees of freedom. The implementation of the body schema by means of the passive motion paradigm is summarised, suggesting that a well-defined body schema may be the basic building block for developing a powerful cognitive architecture. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.
