The objective of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the SOQ for the Brazilian sport context, in terms of construct validity, discriminant validity and reliability. The study included 387 athletes and 480 university studies. The SOQ carried a single factor and presented excellent discriminant capacity among athletes and non‐athletes. It was concluded that the SOQ showed a good psychometric performance when studied from a sample of Brazilian athletes of different modalities.
