Abstract

This chapter tells the story of how Julia Lynch, founder of Global Girl Project, used her experience of difference and of being “other” to create a programme to help change the lives of young women. Global Girl Project is a one-of-a-kind international non-profit organization that empowers young women in a number of countries to become agents of social change through community development programming, including engagement with sport in the most unlikely of circumstances. In the chapter, Julia describes how Global Girls was established, how it runs, its recent activities and successes.
