Forty-nine species of echinoderms, excluding holothurians, are recorded from the Chatham Islands area; eight of these species are new records. A total of 55 species has been recorded from this area, but four remain to be confirmed, and crinoids are yet to be reported. Of the 51 species definitely known to occur, 13 are confined to shallow water and a further 10 appear limited to the continental shelf; 13 species are present on the shelf and slope, and 15 are known only from the slope. The fauna lacks endemic species and is dominated by species that are widespread throughout New Zealand. © 1993 Crown.
