In this chapter, I discuss the methods I used in my study and the methodological issues involved in the research. I begin by talking about my research design and reasons for choosing an ethnographic approach. I then describe my experience of being ‘in the field’, researching a social world that was extremely familiar to me and the process of conducting interviews with respondents who had known me for many years. Finally, I discuss the ethical issues involved in the research.
