Abstract

Scalp itch is a common cause of complaint in the dermatological setting and also accompanies many of the scalp disorders. When possible, the first step to treat scalp pruritus is to find the underlying cause. A thorough evaluation must comprehend a complete interrogatory, clinical, and trichoscopical evaluation and sample taking when necessary.Management of scalp itching includes hygiene recommendations and topical and systemic antipruritic treatment. Itch perception and its impact on quality of life must be taken into account when deciding the treatment of choice.Specific scalp conditions respond to treatment according to their mechanism for causing itch.In order to help attenuate scalp itch, helping skin barrier and microflora balance, general antipruritic management, specific itch-mediator targeting, and subjacent disease treatment must be combined.
