Abstract

The article discusses the pervasive issue of physician burnout and its consequences on healthcare systems worldwide. The authors emphasize the importance of continuing education (CE) in reducing burnout and improving the well-being of healthcare professionals. They argue that CE must evolve to maximize its utility and effectiveness, incorporating active, participatory, and engaging learning experiences. The authors also highlight the role of online learning in addressing burnout, as it offers flexibility, learner control, and the ability to revisit materials. However, they acknowledge that online learning has its limitations and that live learning activities still have their advantages. The article concludes by calling for investment in the professional development of healthcare professionals and the adoption of best practices in online and virtual education to ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare.
