Abstract

When networking infrastructures are damaged due to a serious disaster such as earthquakes, communications on the Internet might be inconvenient. Many researches about Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) have been progressed to solve the issue. The message ferrying is one of data transferring method in DTN. A message ferry is placed and moving around an area. Nodes in a network transfer data to the message ferry when it comes. If a message ferry cannot move around frequently, battery will be consumed due to waste data transfer and some opportunities for data transfer to the message ferry are lost. To solve this issue, we propose a sub message ferry that collect data when a message ferry does not stay in an area. A sub message ferry is chosen from nodes that have enough battery charge. Our proposed method has advantages about sustainable duration of mobile nodes in terms of battery charge by comparison with conventional message ferrying.
