Abstract

Finite element analysis has long been used to research the underlying phenomenon in different processes. It has helped researches to study the different processes in the microscopic level. The present work is a study on the back-extrusion process using finite element analysis using commercially available software. In the back-extrusion process, the workpiece undergoes large deformation. Large deformation subsequently affects the performance of the components when they are put into working condition. The aim of the present work is to determine the stress and strain distribution in the workpiece that undergoes back extrusion. Commercially available software Abaqus has been used in the analysis. A 2D axisymmetric model has been developed to do the studies. The results obtained are promising and can be used for further research.
