Abstract

The primary purpose of this study is to examine the models' performance for estimating average delay experienced by the passing vehicles at signalized intersection network, and to improve the models' performance for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) application in terms of actuated signal operation. Two major problems affected the models' performance have been defined by the empirical analyses in this paper. The first problem is related to the time period of delay estimation. The second problem is associated with the fact that the observed arrival flow patterns are so different from those applied for developing the existing models. This paper presents several methods to overcome the problems for estimating the delay by using the existing models. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2004.
