Abstract

1. Pyloric stenosis is the most common surgical cause of vomiting in infancy. 2. The vomiting is always non-bilious and is forceful or "projectile, " typically after oral intake. Vomiting occasionally may be rust colored from blood. 3. The gold standard for diagnosis is ultrasound of the pyloric muscle dimensions. 4. Dehydration should be suspected and electrolytes corrected with intravenous fluids. 5. Treatment is pyloromyotomy (open or laparoscopic).
