Abstract

Ecology deals with the interactions between organisms and their biotic and abiotic environment, thus embracing all areas of integration from single-cell organisms to the biosphere. Therefore, the areas of research and of the various disciplines within ecology differ widely in methods and concepts (see Sect. 11.6).
