Current techniques of toenail surgery

Abstract

Toenail surgeries are among the most frequently performed of all office procedures. Nearly one million toenail avulsions and matricectomies were performed by podiatrists on the American Medicare population in 2005 alone.1 The scope of this chapter is limited to toenail procedures addressing symptomatic ingrown nails (i.e., onychocryptosis). A more comprehensive treatment of nail surgery can be found in textbooks dedicated entirely to the subject.2,3.
