Abstract

Inherent parallelism of Cellular Automata as well as large size of automata systems used for simulations makes their parallel implementation indispensable. The purpose of this paper is to present a parallel implementation of two sequential models introduced for modelling evolution of anastomosing river networks. Despite the both models exploit the Cellular Automata paradigm, the nontrivial application of this approach in the second model involves defining a mixed parallel-sequential algorithm. The detailed description of the two algorithms and the results of performance test are presented. © 2002 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
