Abstract

In this talk I will examine the different kinds of rule systems which have been used historically within games. I will then explore the emerging field of self modifying rule systems within computer games. In conclusion I will cover various techniques which maybe applied and how games relating to everyday life such as The Sims can benefit from such systems. Rod Humble has been in the games industry for over 16 years. His first original game design The Humans was released by GameTek in 1991. Since then he has worked on and released well over a hundred games as designer, producer and executive producer. Before coming to Electronic Arts in 2004 he was Vice President of Product Development heading up the EverQuest studio for Sony Online Entertainment. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.
