Abstract

Key Features: Knockdown resistance is related to voltage-gated sodium channels and is increasingly common among lice. Knockdown resistance can often be overcome by prolonged exposure to the pyrethroid. There is lesser resistance to malathion compared to other agents. Malathion efficacy is due, in large part, to the petroleum-based vehicle, which is irritating and flammable. Agents that kill via asphyxiation rather than neurotoxicity offer a better approach to treatment. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
