Abstract

A modified elongational device was developed to characterize the elongational behavior of viscoelastic fluids. In its application to dilute aqueous polymer solutions, the device allowed rapid formation of a liquid thread between two solid plates. With the new device, it was possible to determine both the transient and the steady terminal elongational viscosity of the fluids.
