Abstract

The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) monitors the situation with respect to racism and intolerance in the 47 member States of the Council of Europe. This article summarises the evaluation made in ECRI’s recent monitoring reports on Germany. It also analyses ECRI’s recommendations to the German authorities, which aim to make the right to equality, and thereby racial justice, a reality. The latest monitoring report was published in February 2014 and covers the topics of legislation against racism and racial discrimination, hate speech, violence and integration policies. The article finally focuses on the contribution of the police and the judiciary to make racial justice a reality.
