Abstract

Focusing on the US, the data & hypotheses that have been presented concerning the relationships that exist between labor markets & international migration are summarized. Four issues are addressed: (1) the numbers, features, & settlement patterns of recent immigrants to the US; (2) the reasons for international migration & the implications of alternative descriptive factors for the labor market; (3) the effects of immigrants on the US labor market; & (4) the rate of immigrant integration into the US labor market structure. Emphasis is given to race & gender issues. The effects of labor market segmentation & income distribution are also emphasized. 2 Tables, 1 Figure, 216 References. K. Larsen
