Abstract

Chemical-free hairstyling for those with naturally curly hair is becoming a popular and accepted way of hair styling. Since many of the hair and scalp dermatological conditions afflicting people of color are associated with traumatic hair care practices such as chemical and thermal straightening, chemical-free styling is an alternative for those looking to optimize a healthy hair regimen. As more people of color embrace their naturally curly hair, dermatologists will play an essential role in helping patients transition from traumatic hair care practices to natural hair care practices.
