This text discusses the violence of the word/words and the ways in which words have been, and are, used to legitimise patriarchal violence against women. Specifically, it explores the way in which the words of the Bible have been, and are, used to subordinate women. It therefore discusses the discourses of power, but also the possibility of other discourses, forms of "subaltern" empowerment, arising from the "powerless". With regard to the latter aspect, specific emphasis is given to the thought and work of the feminist theologian Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza. (English)
