Abstract

The authors review current therapies for congestive heart failure, such as left ventricular assist devices, biventricular pacemakers, implantable replacement hearts, and neurohormonal agents. They speculate that future therapies will incorporate mechanical heart assist devices as well as myocardial regeneration therapy in addition to current therapies, and that physicians will be better able to identify which patients will benefit most from a particular modality.
