Fitting a new architectural object into existing context requires thorough investigation of local environment, including its cultural and historical background. This paper summarizes problems connected with designing architecture in context and raises an idea of a system able to automatically generate architectural forms with regard to the surroundings. On the basis of reference buildings’ models, graph grammars are created and used for constructing new prototypes which possess a character of the place they belong to. Methods of adaptation of an automatically created grammar to the designer’s needs are proposed.
