Abstract

Buses represent one of the most common and important means of mass transit for people around the globe. As a form of public transportation service, it is highly critical to have strategies that can reduce traffic accidents and save lives. This study examines the relationship between driver characteristics and occurrences of traffic violations or accidents in a Chinese metropolitan city. Using Chi-square analyses, age, education, and experiences were found to be statistically significant predictors. Since these three variables can be influenced using appropriate hiring policies and implementation of best practices, this report should be of particular importance with regard to standards development, recruitment, and driver training.
