Abstract

One of the least studied phenomenon, but at the same time quite common side effects of the hemodialysis procedure is Dialysis Headache (DH), which is included in the 3rd edition of the International Classification of Headache Disorders (ICHD-3) and has been used in the world literature for quite a long time as the subject of scientific discussions. Our task was to reveal the fact of the presence of this pathology among patients on dialysis. Due to the fact that there are no publications on this topic in the Russian Federation at the time of writing this article, we have carried out a small analysis of the literature in order to describe the main pathogenetic mechanisms. Thus, 80% of 35 patients that we included in the study suffered Dialysis Headache, and in most cases it correlated with an elevated blood pressure level. However, some patients being observed (26%) had normal or lowered pressure. The high prevalence and still unexplained mechanisms of Dialysis Headache further determine the necessity for a detailed study of this topic.
