The leafhoppers of lord howe, norfolk, kermadec, and chatham islands and their relationship to the fauna of new zealand (Homoptera: Cicadellidae)

Abstract

The leafhopper fauna of Lord Howe, Norfolk, Kermadec, and Chatham Islands is reviewed and discussed in relation to that of New Zealand. With the exception of the Chatham Islands, which have received their fauna from New Zealand, the fauna of these islands has been derived from both the west and the north, the Australian influence predominating in Lord Howe Island and the northern influence in the Kermadecs. Only 2 species show a relationship with New Zealand. Three widespread Pacific species have their southern limits in the islands to the north of New Zealand, although no major groups absent in New Zealand have reached this far south. Zygina jowettae n.sp. is described from Norfolk Island, and Deltocephalus santuelsoni n.sp. is described from the Kermadecs and Norfolk Island. © 1976 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
