Percutaneous closure of the foramen ovale is considered to be a relatively simple procedure with a low risk of complications. This, however, does not mean it is a less important technique. Indeed, interventional cardiologists must acquire knowledge that goes way beyond the technical implant of prostheses. Proof of this is demonstrated by the lengthy time dedicated to developing devices suitable for all the possible morphologies of the interatrial septum. For the same reason, the main companies producing prostheses for structural heart diseases have never stopped investing in research in this field. In this chapter, the most significant aspects will be approached relating to this procedure and to the management of patients for which it is indicated.
