Abstract

The Intelligent Tutorial Systems (ITS) are computer applications used for teaching diverse disciplines, among them for the area o foreign language teaching. The systems (ITS) consist of three main parts: an expert module, a tutor module, and a student module. Each of these components is part of a larger system (ITS) which allows the system to adapt to the learner's skill level. To achieve a complete articulation of the system it is necessary, besides designing the model for each component, to establish the parameters, the variables and the information shared by each of the components and the way they carry out the task. This paper presents the proposal of an ITS model for teaching Spanish as a foreign language, the design of each module, and the way the mechanism is articulated to achieve the final goal of the system, which is its adaptability as a tool for teaching Spanish as a foreign language, according to the students'needs. © 2012 PUCV, Chile.
