Abstract

The purpose of the research was to identify psychosocial, behavioral and cultural factors associated with consistent condom use in a sample of adolescents in conflict with the law. 320 men (M = 16.33 years) were assessed and were given a booklet evaluating pattern of sexual behavior, knowledge Virus (HIV) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), attitudes and intention to use condom, subjective norm, risk behavior of friends, partner communication, negotiation styles and gender stereotypes. The results showed that the variables for classifying the group consisting of non- consistent condom use were at first and last sex, having sex and drinking, variables related to the pattern of sexual behavior, psychosocial variables on only attitudes toward condom use, knowledge of STIs and the risk characteristics of the friends to discriminate between the groups, only the behavioral variables discriminated trading style collaboration-equity, and any cultural variable did. The results are discussed in terms of the importance of generating sexual health programs in this population.
