Abstract

A review on the concept of polyamorphism of pharmaceutical materials. Based on current reports, the no. of instances of true polyamorphism with pharmaceutical materials appears likely to be very small. However, there are many possible relaxational states of most glassy amorphous pharmaceuticals and these might possibly be described as pseudo-polyamorphs. These different amorphous forms are sufficiently long lived that a formulation scientist may seriously consider incorporating them into pharmaceutical dosage forms to take advantage of their distinct pharmaceutical properties.
