Forgotten facility: The pneumatic tube mail system in Russian state library

Abstract

This paper describes history of development, installation and usage of pneumatic mail system in Russian State Library. Main peculiarity of this single-pipe system is ability to transfer several carriers simultaneously through the building which it is installed within. Technical solutions which were used to develop the system practically turned it to forgotten relic with both mechanical and electronic transport control techniques combined.
